The BRAVO Youth Orchestras Choir Program invites anyone and everyone who desires to experience community through music to their concert on Friday, April 21 at Jefferson High School (5210 N Kerby Ave, Portland, 97217)! The event’s theme is "connected"– focusing on the idea that, through music, we are all somehow connected to one another, whether we know each other or not. This event is free for attendees of all ages, with doors opening at 6:30pm, and the concert starting at 7:00pm.
The Black Food Sovereignty Coalition (BFSC) has been very busy with some key programs, such as their annual gathering, Back to the Root, which took place March 17-20 at the Tacoma campus of Evergreen State College. Over 200 individuals participated, including some from Canada–a big increase from the 70 participants they had at their first conference just three years ago. They are looking forward to hosting a volunteer work day on Earth Day (April 22), in partnership with Portland Parks & Recreation. BFSC’s liaison, Sarah Cleveland, reports that anyone can volunteer at the Black Futures Farm! You can express your interest through this form: https://forms.gle/tKhmyY2AhtSzXhJN6, as an individual or group (see the volunteer form for some suggested days/times).
Constructing Hope identified three ways that 99GF members could amplify and support their work: One is access to fundraising networks, and our Development Coordinator Maia De La Torre-Mackin will work with you. Another is recruiting qualified candidates of color for open positions—they are currently hiring for a Receptionist/Program Administrative Supporter, Case Manager, Hands-on Trainer/Instructor, and Fundraising/Development Manager. More details can be found on the Employment Opportunities of their website. Finally, they seek diverse board members with expertise in finance, governmental funding contracts and grants, nonprofit management, equity building, and an understanding of green solar work.
