The Racial Equity Committee is managed by two co-chairs who rotate off in alternate years (so we don’t lose institutional knowledge or momentum) and who sit on the Coordinating Council. An additional group of up to five members will round out the committee. A 2-year commitment is encouraged. Once formed, the committee will identify staggered terms for its members (again to avoid loss of institutional knowledge).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Racial Equity Committee exists to lead the embedding of racial equity in all that we do
HELPFUL SKILLS
Commitment to racial equity: some experience and/or education in this area is strongly preferred
Ability to collaborate, communicate, and ask hard questions
TECHNOLOGY
We primarily use email, telephone, Zoom, and google drive
Training and tutorials are available for all platforms
TIME COMMITMENT
We encourage committing to two years: one to engage and learn, and the second to teach your successor. The Racial Equity Committee is active year-round (January and July we are typically off). It’s reasonable to expect to spend 4-5 hours per month as follows:
Meeting requirements to be decided by the committee - likely one committee-specific meeting per month (1 hour)
Individual follow-up between meetings (2 hours)
Collaboration with other Coordinating Council Committee Chairs to ensure cross-communication and common understanding of work and definitions (1-2 hours)
Special projects may take additional time
