Communications Committee Overview

The Communications Committee oversees year-round communications within the membership and with the public. Current open roles and descriptions can be found below. Communications roles are currently organized by task. Members of the Communications Committee may split the management of one or more tasks with team members. This depends on the skills and knowledge of our current volunteers. For example, the work of the Social Media Manager position could be split between two members working as a team. Perhaps one team member is interested in batch creating content and another member is available to consistently post the content and interact with followers. As such, there is room for more than one volunteer for many of the open roles listed below. Communications Committee Co-Chair

  • Create and implement a holistic internal & external communication strategy and plan, aligned to the calendar of key activities & events.

  • Guide members in managing the ninety-nine girlfriends brand, including maintaining and sharing a guide to voice, tone, brand, print, and style.

  • Participate in the monthly 1.5-hour Coordinating Council Meeting.

  • Develop an agenda and lead the monthly 1-hour Communications Committee meeting with fellow co-chair.

  • A 2-year commitment is preferred to allow for staggered transition of co-chairs. This provides for one year to learn the ropes and the second year to train your successor to help retain institutional knowledge.

  • Time commitment: approximately 5 hours/month minimum.

MailChimp Manager 

  • This role is focused on inputting content into MailChimp to be sent to our email lists. Familiarity with MailChimp or similar email marketing platforms is ideal.

  • Collect and organize content from ninety-nine girlfriends co-chairs and team leads and input it into the every other week Member Update and quarterly newsletter templates and schedule emails to send.

  • Input content for and schedule ad-hoc emails in MailChimp as necessary.

  • Send MailChimp drafts to the proofreading team before scheduling to send.

  • Prepare content for the Webmaster to be posted to the Squarespace News and Updates blog feed and include the post links in the every other week Member Update email. 

  • Manage internal and external MailChimp email lists.

  • Participate in the monthly 1-hour Communications Committee meeting.

  • Time commitment: approximately 5 hours/month minimum.

  • This role may be filled by several members working as a team.

Social Media Manager 

  • Familiarity with Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn is ideal.

  • Collect content from ninety-nine girlfriends committee co-chairs, team leads, etc..

  • Follow the ninety-nine girlfriends brand guide to utilize photos from our shared drive, and develop visuals and copy from collected content to share on social media.

  • Maintain an active presence on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn by posting and sharing content as well as interacting with comments on our content, etc..

  • Participate in the monthly 1-hour Communications Committee meeting.

  • Time commitment: approximately 5 hours/month minimum.

  • This role may be filled by several members working as a team.

Website Manager

  • Our website is run through Squarespace. Familiarity with Squarespace or similar website development software is ideal.

  • Collect and post website updates from ninety-nine girlfriends committee co-chairs, team leads, etc.

  • Communicate your desired method and timeline for collecting web updates. 

  • Review our website, ninetyninegirlfriends.com for outdated information monthly.

  • Work with the MailChimp Manager to post content to the Squarespace News and Updates blog feed every other week in conjunction with the Member Update email. 

  • Participate in the monthly 1-hour Communications Committee meeting.

  • Time commitment: approximately 5 hours/month minimum.
